Last week, we saw a developer porting the OXYGEN OS 11 into POCO F1. Now, It’s time for the stock android. Yes, a developer recently posted a Custom ROM exclusively for POCO F1 based on stock Android from Pixel Phone. Pixel phones from Google run on this software exclusively made by Google.

What is Stock Android & Why it is the Best OS?

Android is an open-source mobile operating system. In layman terms, everyone can modify it to their liking and can use it wherever they want. They can do things like designing their custom skin or UI on top of the OS, can add new features and add-on programs etc. Samsung Experience, HTC Sense, and Oxygen OS to name a few. They are like vanilla with extra toppings.

Stock Android on the other hand has no add on programs or features. You only get the features developed by Google. It is plain vanilla. Although it sounds not so amazing, Stock Android has its advantages.  Some users prefer Stock Android experience more as it looks simple and easy to use. In fact, Google markets its OS with the tagline “Peace of mind built right in”. The biggest advantage of Stock Android is quick updates. Devices equipped with Stock Android tends to get faster updates than the devices that are running their Custom ROMS made by their manufacturers.

PIXEL Stock OS

Pixel Phones from Google were the first phones to get Android 11 update after being announced back in February. The Stock OS from Google is packed up with some new features such as Built-in screen recording, New conversations tab, Smart home controls, Accessibility improvements, Improved security and Privacy features etc. In fact, the Stock OS made Pixel phones to compete with some biggies like Samsung and Apple in terms of user satisfaction. As a result, Google has named it’s phones as the “World’s very best Android phones”.

PIXEL Stock OS For POCO F1

Although POCO F1 has initially got this build, it was marked as beta. Some of its features and goodies were missed and some didn’t work properly. Now, this build was marked as stable and got everything working in its place. I, myself tested this build and felt satisfied with its working.

The build was released just today (29 Dec 2020) itself and got everything working except Widevine L1 and 4K video recording bugs. You can find the build’s changelog and instructions to install here. But, before proceeding to them, do note that installing Custom ROMS needs some guidance and prerequisites to follow. If you don’t follow them, there is a better chance of losing your Phone’s data or in some cases the device as well. The developers of this build are same as the one who ported the OXYGEN OS 11. They previously ported Android Q and Oxygen OS 9 to POCO F1. According to the developer, the build was stable with a couple of bugs. It also got a few changes that include.

  • Pixel 3 R Display vendor stack
  • Pixel 3 R Media vendor stack.
  • Updated IMS/RIL/QMI stack to Pixel 3 R.
  • Device recognized as Pixel 5.
  • IR camera is now accessible with ir camera app.
  • Ok Google works with screen on.
  • Genos thermals.
  • Fixed issue with booting i.e. no need of doing a force reboot.
  • All changes for December pixel 3 from Google.
