Custom ROMS are fun as they bring new features, tweaks, and design elements relentlessly. As Android is an open-source, developers around the world are taking advantage of it in the right way. They are incorporating out of the box features that are not even available in factory builds. Custom ROMS are giving scope to change every aspect of the Android OS. From tweaking User Interface to enabling Advanced Permissions, you can almost do everything if you are on Custom ROM. Factory builds won’t let you do it. They mostly concentrate on providing a stable working OS for every user. Custom ROMS, on the other hand, doesn’t bind to such rules. A user can alter the features as long as he is capable of handling them. In my opinion, handling the Custom ROMS will make you an advanced mobile user. You can only be able to see some interesting things in Android when you are on Custom ROMS.

Custom ROMS Android

Custom ROMS also gives you a chance to try other Android ROMS without buying expensive devices. Custom ROMS like Lineage OS, Pixel Experience, Resurrection Remix, and OOS Mods are gaining a huge buzz. Some of these are even better than the factory builds when it comes to handling Games, Battery Backup, and Performance Upgrades. Here’s a list of ROMS and the areas they are good at. This review is based on extensive usage of every ROM for a long period of time on flagship devices like OnePlus and POCO F1.

Best Performance: Oxygen OS ROM from OOS Mods

This ROM will give you the opportunity to try Oxygen OS without buying an OnePlus device. I installed this OS on my POCO F1. The experience is almost similar with some exceptions such as Silent Mode Switching, Display, and some UI changes. These exceptions landed due to the differences in their hardware and LED Panels. Unlike many other ROMS, this ROM has an independent support group on telegram to address the issues arising. After installing this ROM, I certainly saw some changes in my POCO F1.

  • The loading speeds are promising than MIUI
  • You don’t get unnecessary apps lurking around here and there.
  • Close to Stock Android Experience.
  • You even get some amazing features like Screen Recording, Scrolling Screenshots, Game Booster and FNATIC Mode which are not present in Stock Android.

Overall, this ROM is a stellar performer and even better than MIUI. The only problem with this ROM is gaming. Heating issues, Frame Drops, and occasional shutdowns are observed while playing Games with this ROM. This ROM is only available to some selected devices such as POCO F1, Asus Zenfone Max M1, M2, etc.

Best Gaming ROM: Every Custom ROM based on Stock Android & MIUI + Seshstation Kernal

Gaming performance has evolved into one of the most crucial aspects of today’s mobile phone world, filled up with battle royale players. The gaming standards of mobile phones gradually improved in the span of the last five years. Everybody wants their game to run smoothly with zero to no frame drops. Even the slightest increase in ping will make them discontented with the device. Hence, manufacturers are designing some phones just for the sake of mobile gamers. However, they are not affordable and it takes a hole in your savings just to buy them. If you bought some affordable devices wiAffiliated Products
th flagship hardware like POCO F1 or OnePlus 6, you can stand a chance to fulfill that dream.

In order to fulfill your gaming cravings, all you need is a ROM that has decent battery backup and less heating issues. I observed both of them in Custom ROMS based on Stock Android. ROMS such as CR Droid, Pixel Experience, Derpfest, Havoc, and Legion ROMS are designed based on Stock Android. They handled game playing better than Oxygen OS & MIUI. Especially CR Droid, Derpfest & Lineage is quite amazing at handling long hour game plays with negligible heating issues.

MIUI, on the other hand, is also quite good for game playing. But, If you love tweaking it some more, you have Seshstation kernel waiting for you. It will increase your display frame rate up to 75 FPS for smoother gameplay.

Best Battery Backup: MIUI Ports (Europe, Masik) & AOSP Stock ROMS

MIUI is undoubtedly one of the heavily customized Android-based OS available right now. However, it’s battery backup is quite good and certainly earns a huge thumbs up. It’s quite strange to see MIUI thriving throughout the day with moderate usage. Moreover, MIUI 12’s ultra battery saving mode is dope & saved me during my vacation where I accidentally left my charging brick hanging in a bus.

Music and MIUI ports bring MIUI beta features to devices such as Redmi K20, K20 Pro and POCO F1. The features that aren’t available in stable builds. They not only bring ports to high-end devices, but also to the devices that are deprecated by the company. You can upgrade Note 4 to Android 10 by simply flashing the MIUI 11 Masik ROM.

  • Battery backup on these ROMS is as good as the stock MIUI ROM.
  • The ultra battery saver mode works really well and saves you some extra power before you can switch to other sources.
  • MIU’sI kernel is good and manages resources well.

The Custom ROMS based on Stock Android also manages resources well and therefore saves you a lot of power. Lineage OS is one good amazingly coded ROM and a great battery saver.

Best Daily Drivers: Pixel Experience, Derpfest & Lineage

They are many factors involved in selecting a ROM for this particular category. I considered the Duration of OTA Updates, Dev Support, Performance, Stable Release, etc in order to select a ROM for this category. These ROMS are good daily drivers as they go toe-to-toe in providing all of those features similar to factory builds.

You can have Security patches, Bug fixes, and various add-ons through OTA updates just like the factory builds. They are trustworthy enough to give a shot. Even Google sponged some features of Lineage OS and dumped it onto Android.

Best Customization Factor: Resurrection Remix, Lineage OS & Evolution X

Do you want to make your device look different from others? Do you love changing everything about your device? It’s theme, colour, icons and even animations. These ROMS will certainly make it possible. You can almost alter every interface and features as you prefer. If you have good taste and editing skills, your phone will attract a huge crowd asking about those changes. But, If you are not, your device will become awful. These ROMS are known as the successors of the infamous Cyanogenmod. Customization is their forte.
