Whatsapp Checkpoint: Check If The Image Is Legit?

Whatsapp Checkpoint_curious steve

You know what travels faster than light, Social networking. It can make any news spread like a wildfire, no matter how much is its legitimacy. News, Gossips, Wishes whatever they are, all we need is just a single tap, that’s all. It travels at light speed.   Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even Whatsapp has now become the official brand ambassadors of virality even if its not close to reality. If you see, Couple of years ago, Facebook and Twitter are the only apps did this job of spreading the news throughout the timelines of people.

But now, Since Whatsapp has become default messenger for many people and introduced features like status updates, it took the initiative of spreading the news through this. Many people, especially people from Asiatic origin has a tendency to share everything without checking their liability. We can see a large amount of unfiltered and illegitimate message being shared once in a week from many people in our contact list.

Whatsapp Checkpoint:

Some people want to help them by donating to the cause, but how can we know if it is real or just a hoax. In order to do this, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called Whatsapp checkpoint. Through this feature, we can check whether the news was real or not. Even WhatsApp denied the existence of feature like this. The end to end encryption would not allow for any direct way of checking the legitimacy of the news that is being shared within the Whatsapp Community. But at last, it came up with a solution to this problem through a service which is named as “Whatsapp Check Point”.

How it works

WhatsApp checkpoint is an automated bot service which replies to your queries automatically. It verifies any piece of news or images you send it. So, how does it works? All you have to do is forward a message which you want to check the legitimacy. It will ask you to confirm if you want to go ahead with the verification procedure

Once allowed permission, it will look up the information provided by you with the help of Proto. Proto is an Indian startup which is developed to check the liability of the info sharing around the internet. It concludes if a piece is true, false, disputed or just misleading.

How to do it:

You can check it by just sending an SMS to this number (+91 9643000888) through Whatsapp. Up until now, the process takes a lot of time at least an hour.

According to Ritvvij Parikh and Nasr ul Hadi, Founders of PROTO- “The goal of this project is to study the misinformation phenomenon at scale — natively in WhatsApp. As more data flows in, we will be able to identify the most susceptible or affected issues, locations, languages, regions, and more. The verification reports we send back will encourage our grassroots-level “listening posts” to send more signals for analysis.”

I hope this solves the issue. Through this post, I want to convey something to all readers, please save this number and check the liability of the news before making it viral.  Send as many messages as you cam and help the system work properly.
