POCO F2 Mystery Might Be Solved? Everything is Pointing Towards K40

Poco F2 Curious_Steve.jpg

POCO F1 is a huge success and it made POCO a recognizable brand over the masses. It broke all the previous records and sales figures. It’s been over 3 years since its release and the model hasn’t seen a worthy successor. The phone was a massive success and still going strong at the same price tag. Although POCO has officially named F2 pro as its successor, it failed miserably in capturing the market. Poco F2 pro has got everything under its hood incredible specs sheet, amazing features, jaw-dropping design. However, it seriously lacked something that made Poco F1 famous- “Being on Budget”.

People didn’t like the concept of paying more to get a flagship phone copy. Brands like OnePlus and Xiaomi are already there competing against each other for the flagships title. It took two years for POCO to get that and since then we haven’t seen any flagship release from POCO. It started concentrating on capturing mid-range and budget range smartphones. With its latest releases, X-series and M-series, POCO made a notable success over the years.

The Poco F2 Mystery

Poco recently announced that it has partnered with Qualcomm to bring a new Pocophone. It has also publicly accepted that F2 pro was not a worthy successor to Poco F1. Even though it didn’t reveal the name of the phone, many people believed that this can finally be the Poco F2. From then on, we saw a series of speculations on Poco F2 that it will be shipped with a mid-range processor, it will not be a flagship like the F1 etc. However, Poco officially declined these speculations stating that F2 comes with a powerful processor and it’ll be a flagship smartphone.

Apart from these, Poco hasn’t revealed any inner details about its new release. The only thing that’s confirmed until now is that it will be a flagship range smartphone. Apart from this, we got nothing and this made POCO F2 a mystery. But, some cool things have happened throughout this time. When we analyze them, we might solve the Poco F2 Mystery once and for all.

The Snapdragon 870 Unveil from Qualcomm

Qualcomm has recently announced Snapdragon 870 chipset, a new processor range, specially designed to accommodate budget flagships. These chipsets were designed for companies that are not willing to spend big on Snapdragon 888 chip. This announcement came out right after Qualcomm promised a gift for Poco on its birthday.

According to some reports, Snapdragon 870 could be an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 865. It means, 870 is a powerful processor and can work better than Snapdragon 865. SD 865 is a flagship-grade processor and it is powering some amazing flagships right now. For instance, Oneplus 8, 8T, ASUS ROG and the Galaxy S20 series bears the same processor under their hood. Many tech blogs also think that 870 might be a clear choice for Poco F2. If it is true, Poco might regain the “flagship killer title” once again.

Xiaomi Unveiling Redmi K40

Over the last few weeks, Xiaomi has shared some glimpses of its new K40 series lineup. The company has now finally launched these phones starting in China. The lineup includes three models K40, K40 Pro and K40 Pro+. Among these models, K40 was powered by Snapdragon 870 while the other two models K40 and K40 Pro+ bear snapdragon 888 under their hood. Interestingly, K40 intrigued several people online as it matches every imaginary aspect of Poco F2.

According to XDA, K40 models were priced at CNY 1999 (~$310) for 6GB/128GB, CNY 2199 (~$340): 8GB/128GB ,8GB/256GB: CNY 2499 (~$387) and 12GB/256GB: CNY 2699 (~$418).

K40 Might Be Rebranded to POCO F2 in India

Although POCO calls itself an independent brand, over the years we saw a series of rebranded phones in its lineup. Poco has a habit of rebranding the Chinese version of Redmi phones with its label.  For instance, Poco F2 Pro was a rebranded version of K30 Pro 5G, X2 is a rebranded version of K30 and M2 Pro is rehashed Redmi Note 9 Pro. Although some phones like Poco M3 possess a whole new design, many phones from POCO got Redmi’s rebranded touch.

According to our guess based on rigorous follow-ups through these timelines, we though Poco F2 might be the rebranded version of K40. If it is true and was also priced at that same price tag that it released in China, Poco F2 might regain the “The Flagship Killer” title once again. We are crossing our fingers for it. What do you think? Comment your opinion. The official release date of K40 was not confirmed yet and so is Poco F2.  Meanwhile, check out the specs sheet of these three phones below.
