RRR Review

RRR Review: RRR aka Roudram Ranam Rudhiram is a Tollywood movie directed by SS Rajamouli, who previously directed Bahubali. The film was originally set to hit theatres last year itself. However, the highly anticipated movie has finally reached theatres today itself after facing a series of postponements owing to the pandemic and several other issues. The film has received a huge response from audiences all over the world. RRR is regarded as one of the highest budget movies that were ever made in the Indian film industry. This even amounts to the anticipation amongst the masses. Above all, is the latest release of SS Rajamouli right after doing Bahubali, the movie that’s hailed as the magnum opus of the Indian cinema.

The movie holds famous artists from every movie industry across India and even from Hollywood. The multi-lingual, multi-starer movie bags stars from various languages including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and even from outside India as well. Ram Charan Tej and Jr.NTR took the main roles in this film. They are at top of their game right now. Above all, they were paired up with Olivia Morris and Ali Bhatt. Apart from these, RRR has a long list of actors including Alison Doody, Ajay Devgn, Ray Stevenson, Shriya, and Daisy Edgar Jones. Things like these have made RRR the most anticipated movie of this year. The trailer of this movie has scored a whopping 58 million views already. You can check out the review of it here.

Let’s jump into the movie review to see how this latest magnum opus has done so far. Is it good? Is it great? Let’s find out.

RRR Review: Storyline & Direction.

RRR is a periodical fantasy that narrates the lives of 2 fictional characters Rama Raju and Bheem. The names of the characters depict the profiles of two eminent freedom fighters. However, the movie does not coincide with any of those two personalities or their life stories. It’s not about them. The movies are just built upon their names and their patriotic natures. They are purely fictional.

Speaking about the direction department, SS Rajamouli has certainly made ample justice to his craft. His way of talking through the scenes, especially with the action scenes has made him who he is right now. You can witness the same in RRR. The action scenes were perfectly carried out and stood right on point with the narration. I adored the opening action sequences featuring Jr.NTR fighting a tiger and Ram Charan controlling the angry mob. The audio mixing and the taking of the particular action sequence will leave you in awe.

It’s not easy to make people sit through 3 hours without getting them bored at any point. Rajamouli did it anyway, therefore, the director deserves a round of applause for his narration. However, one thing that I didn’t like about the movie is that some of the elements turned out to be easily predictable which killed the vibe of the movie. The trailer itself has revealed some main aspects of the movie.

Overall, the storyline is close to perfect. The first half is good, Second half will take you on a swing. The story would’ve been flawless if it wasn’t predictable.

RRR Review: Cinematography & Editing

Cinematography and editing were the biggest assets for this film apart from the huge star cast and ss rajamouli’s direction. When it comes to the stance of this particular category, Rajamouli films were considered a hallmark label. His previous movies never disappointed a single audience in this particular aspect and you can expect the same with RRR. The movie is led by some eminent technicians across the globe. Even the director SS Rajamouli himself has quoted that he is proud of his team and they’ve certainly given an amazing output for this film.

The visuals were stunning and you can find them complimenting the whole narration precisely. Every scene was perfectly linked with the next one and it will certainly intrigue the audience while watching it. The movie showcased everything from drama, sentiment, and pain during the late 19th-century freedom struggle. Every frame showcased the production values of the film. Get ready to drop your jaws on the floor. You won’t be able to witness something like this for a couple of years.

Overall, I think the editing department uplifted the movie and gave a strong base to the director’s vision and narration.

RRR Review: Performance

RRR revolves around the lead actors Jr.Ntr and Ram charan who were never cast before together. Both of these characters have unique identities and personalities. Bheem was a talkative, powerhouse of a character who seeks comfort in his vigilante nature. Jr. NTR stood as a perfect fit for this role. On the other hand, Seetha Rama Raju’s character was built upon a calm, surreal, calculated natured cop who’s obedient and follows the rules of the book. Ram Charan portrayed the character perfectly.

During the initial phase of the movie, both of these characters complement each other in a very balanced way. However, the differences between these characters and personalities lash out once they choose different paths in the middle. In the end, once they sort out their differences and shortcomings, they become equal and that’s where you’ll find the real swing in the movie.

For me, their characterization seems like a double-edged sword perfectly wielded by the director. The phase of Rama Raju swivelling into a positive shade benefitted the character and the storyline very much. Props to Jr.NTR and Ram Charan for their tremendous acting skills. They both handled the movie in a very balanced way.

However, the biggest disappointment with the movie is that only the lead actors got the whole show running. The movie has a long list of promising actors like Ray Stevenson, Ajay Devgn, Olivia Morris, Alia Bhatt and Shriya Saran. However, the lead actors outshined everyone. The storyline hasn’t given the scope to any one of them. Except for Ajay Devgn, some of these actors have only got a couple of minutes on screen time.

Overall, both Jr.NTR and Ram Charan clocked one of their best performances so far. It’s a treat to the eyes seeing them taking the adventure together.

Final Words
RRR has what it takes to be a blockbuster. It has got stunning visuals, outstanding performances, amazing narration and over the top action scenes. Except the predictability in story line, everything about it is right on top. The movie is a must watch for everyone especially for action movie fanatics.
