Poco M2 pro is officially unveiled. Xiaomi is planning to put it’s bet on this budget-friendly phone after a big disappointment from its much-awaited POCO F2 Pro.
POCO F2 Pro – Where’s The Math Went Wrong!
Accept or not, POCO F2 Pro was unable to recreate the kind of buzz made by its predecessor POCO F1. It has got everything under its hood. High-performance hardware combines with a killer price tag. POCO by Xiaomi beat all the odds to bring a phone that’s more budget-friendly combined with flagship-level hardware specifications. With its new release F2 Pro, POCO achieved the expectations of releasing a flagship-level performer but failed to repeat the budget-friendly factor just like POCO F1.
I love POCO F1. I’ve been using it for more than a year and got no regrets for buying it. It’s a beast in my opinion with a budget that’s suitable for many people and flagship-level specifications. I’m one of those people who waited for years looking for something that has the ability to tap my budget-friendly greedy mind. F1 did it and it’s obvious that I expect more for the next release. I expected a minimal leap from POCO when it gets to the price tag, but it took a quantum leap with a price tag that costs double that amount.
POCO Slowly Transforming To OnePlus
I still remember watching the live preview of the F2 release. The comment section flooded with urges of having a price tag ranging up to 30K. When the price tag was revealed, many people got disappointed. The biggest irony is that POCO is still calling its F2 Pro a huge success while not planning to release it in India. I still remember F1 did a huge business here and now POCO is ditching India. When the F1 was released, they proudly bombarded Twitter with “Do The Math” hashtags by taking a direct dig at OnePlus. They are doing the same thing with F2 Pro. Now, they revealed a phone which is budget-friendly and a direct copy of their own work covering up the failures of its sub-brand POCO.
POCO M2 Pro: My Honest Review
Unlike F1, F2 Pro & even X2, this model hasn’t gained any grand release tactics or PR stunts. The minute you heard its name from a tech website, it is unveiled in Flipkart. When I saw its picture on twitter, these three questions got rolling in my mind.
- Is it Redmi Note 9 Pro or what?
- Why is it look more like a Redmi note 9 pro and less like POCO M2?
- We already got Note 9 Pro to buy on Amazon. What’s the point of having two identical phones right from the same company?
So, I looked into their comparison charts and even looking at it for hours, I haven’t found any major variations except for the price tag, battery and the IR-blaster. Even the Camera, Processor and the Display everything is identical. They are like brothers from another mother. They can unlock an iPhone easily if they have faces. Whatever it is, Let’s talk about the M2 Pro in-depth.
Design:
When it comes to design and aesthetics, M2 Pro looks like a revision of Note 9/Note 9 Pro. Even the POCO F1 is not good enough when it comes to the aesthetic appeal, but it’s specs saved it from doomsday. I think X2 is the only leverage of POCO when it comes to the design category. POCO M2 Pro on the other hand just looks dull and seriously lacks the aesthetic appeal. Maybe the tight budget aspects didn’t give room for the designer to work on it. I think, Maybe a head-turner design with a slight increase in its budget would make it even more appealing.
Performance:
POCO M2 Pro has got the Snapdragon 720 chip under its hood. It boasts everything a user needs. Smart AI, Smooth HDR Gaming, Better Wi-Fi connectivity and more. Even the benchmarks are really good. I think the processor will make this phone to sail smoothly into the market.
Camera:
M2 Pro is geared up with 5 cameras in total. A primary 48-megapixel sensor, an 8-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens, a 5-megapixel macro camera, 2-megapixel depth camera and a 16-megapixel front shooter. As per the research that I’ve done, M2 Pro’s cameras failed to deliver the quality expected by the users. These cameras failed to capture the images clearly especially in low light conditions. Software:
POCO M2 Pro comes with MIUI 11 out of the box and as per the news that’s published here, this phone is eligible to get MIUI 12. I’m not the biggest fan of MIUI as it is heavily customized and sometimes get slow down. It’s not a deal-breaker though. It is a good daily driver and reliable. It’s just not perfect.
Battery:
POCO M2 Pro has got 5,000mAh battery powered by 33W fast charger included in the box. Ironically, it’s look-a-like Redmi Note 9 Pro has 5020 mAh battery and supports 18 W Fast charging capability. So, POCO shuffled the specs of this category to make it look different which might actually work. A massive battery-powered wit higher charging speeds have become a new selling mantra for mobiles nowadays.
