Farlight 84: The Behind Story
Farlight 84 (Early Access) Impressions:
Farlight 84 was a battle royale game. The concept of Battle Royale was nothing new, even in mobile games as well. Popular games like PUBG, Free Fire, Fortnite, Call of Duty were designed on the idea of battle royale. However, Farlight 84 might take Battle Royale to a whole new level. Gaming in Farlight 84 is fun and intriguing. However, the gameplay is suffering from various flaws and they are dragging the whole experience down.
We have already played the initial build and already covered a detailed review of the game. You can check out the initial review here. As the game is right now conducting the second phase, we got to try the improved version as well. We’ve found some improvements in this build. However, some problems are still there lurking under the hood. Here are the things that we found so far about the game.
Farlight 84: Review – Graphics/Gameplay Resembles Fortnite
The graphics in Farlight 84 are crisp. They will give you an immersive feel, especially the textures and colour profiling of the environment. They are just perfect and fits right with the futuristic apocalyptic backstory of the game and the open-world gaming genre. The attention to detail is just out of the world. For instance, you can find Trash Cans, Power Poles, Generators and even houses that give you a futuristic next-generation look.
The gameplay of Farlight 84 resembles more like Fortnite than PUBG. The graphics in both games share some uncanny resemblance. The trees, pathway, greenery and even the character movements resemble playing in a Fortnite environment.
Graphics were improved a lot in the early access. We saw some glitches here and there with the initial version, especially in character movements. Those issues were not observed with the current version. The graphics were smooth and the movements are quite improved a lot. However, spotting the enemies in Farlight 84 is quite difficult. Some of the avatars characters used in the game overlap with the environment textures which makes spotting them quite difficult without the red indicator on the map.
Overall, graphics are good and quite improved a lot in the current version. However, some useful options were still left out. For instance, the dashboard only has options to increase or decrease graphic quality. It does not provide options to change the refresh rate or anti-aliasing. Those options are necessary for people who don’t have high-end hardware in their phones. Maybe, they might be added to the final version.
Farlight 84: Review – Sounds/Haptic
Farlight 84 has got a wide range of sounds in its gameplay. Some of them were good and compliments well with the gaming environment. However, some of them were downright horrible and lets you down in the heat of the gameplay. The sounds adapted in tracking enemy movements went quite overboard and will make you confuse. This makes spotting the enemies more difficult.
Farlight 84 has some of the amazing looking war machines ever created in mobile games. Quadrupedal, Hovering, Turreted, War SUV, Super Race Cars and more. Some of them were futuristic, monstrous and possess the ability to fire at the enemy. Although they look and sounds awesome, they are making the gameplay quite difficult. For instance, if you take vehicles in PUBG, they were only meant to drive. If they are approaching you, except that vroom sound, you won’t get to hear anything. Some players can even spot the vehicle easily just by hearing those sounds in PUBG. But, in Farlight 84, this is not the case. They sound different and also the firepower on them adds some sounds into the mix. They make the combat quite confusing and overwhelming.
Coming to the haptic feedback, this version of Farlight 84 has improved a lot from the initial version. The feedback is good and you can feel the taping.
Overall, this segment was quite improved than the initial version. However, differentiating the sound mixing would help Farlight 84 a lot.
Farlight 84: Review – Characters(Avatars) & Powerups
Farlight 84 is filled with some amazing looking characters. Each character has their own set of abilities, speed and agility. Even the characters have some level-ups that’ll make them more strong and combat-ready. The games have got total of 12 unique characters Maggie, Wastelander, Heart, Scavenger, Ducksyde, Sunil, Olga, Yong and Ryda to choose from. Off all the characters, Ducksyde and Yong caught my eyes.
One of the coolest features of Farlight 84 is the Jetpack feature. Unlike PUBG or COD mobiles, this game has got Jetpack which serves as the landing gear and also as the backpack as well. Speaking of the landing, Farlight 84’s spawn base and landing pods features are unique and gives you a futuristic vibe. Players can spawn onto the isle city by using those landing pods and can use jetpacks to land easily. The Jetpack even works after the landing. They can be used to do some amazing maneuvers during close combat. You can also use the Jetpack to dodge the attacks and can use it to fire from the air as well.
Farlight 84: Review – Vehicles & Weapons With Special Abilities
Coming to the battle machines, Farlight 84 is filled with several vehicles to choose from. They can be used to transport and also for combat as well as they got firepower hooked onto them. One of the interesting War Machine is the Spyder shaped vehicle. It mimics the real spider walking and has also got nukes attached to them. It can walk on hills, small walls and can also jump up to a certain height.
Even the guns used in Farlight 84 are also put off the world. You’ll feel more of them like futuristic laser throwing machines than the actual guns. Every gun is unique and possesses amazing firepower. They even got Powerups that can be boosted by using the power poles deployed everywhere on the map. Some of the guns even got additional Powerups such as throwing grenades, nukes and bots that can kill your opponent with ease. However, you’ll feel some aiming problems with them which are negligible by the way once you practice a lot. Before practicing, controlling them is not an easy task.
Farlight 84: Review – Gaming Modes/Maps
Right now, Farlight 84 has got only one map for the battle royale mode. It is called “The Isle City”. The map looks good and futuristic. Every house in the game was built to look as if they came right out of the future. I appreciate the vision behind this map. Almost, everything on the map is filled with Glowing lights, Digital signs and Funky Colors. The environment in this map is cool and fun to play in.
Coming to the modes, apart from battle royale, this game has got a new mode added to the current release. It is called Hunt. In this mode, players can go as teams to hunt for some Nametags. Once they secure the Nametags they can go to the evacuation zone and they can eject from the warzone. Whoever got there first collecting the tags will win the match.
Battery Drain & Overheating: The Main Problems
The initial version of the game has several issues which were addressed in the present version. However, some problems were still there with this game and they are affecting the gameplay experience. The battery Drain is evident. The picture below shows the total battery drain while playing this game. It took around 27% of my battery power for a mere 4-5 minute gameplay. The same result was repeated in X3 Pro as well.
Even the heating problem is quite evident. My phone POCO F1 got overheated and I’ve never seen that while playing any games. My phone used to get that much heat after 6-7 intensive sessions of playing PUBG. But, with Farlight 84, I saw that much heat produced with only a couple of gameplays.
Final Words: Farlight 84
Farlight 84 has got everything covered. It has got Intriguing Gaming Environment, Amazing Combat Maneuvers, Out of World Vehicles and Firepower. However, the makers have to address the overheating and battery drain problems as soon as possible to make it more playable. They are dragging the whole gaming experience down. If the issue persists with the final version, this game won’t stand a chance against PUBG, Call of duty or Free fire, which have already amassed a huge following.
